"Fashion is genderless & limitless"

I’ve always believed that fashion is another form of self-expression and provides others with a quick snapshot of who you are from the clothes you wear. I believe that all types of clothes belong to everyone, connecting with the philosophy that fashion is genderless and limitless. This project was my final assignment for my Fashion illustrations and Design functions subject for Collarts as a first-year student. This assignment involved illustrating an 8-piece garment collection based on the aesthetic of the garments seen in my wardrobe which hone a fluid, androgynous and subversive style with a muted colour palette. I love choosing a specific persona and presenting an aura that I want to emit on the day and enjoy the head-turning reactions that my outfits get.

Learning to be brave and dress authentically has made me feel happier and freer. In the past, I’ve learnt to pretend to live as the expectations set in place for me but living that way- although it's second nature to place others before me, the person who gets hurt the most in the end is me. Self-discovery has taught me to choose and live the person I want to be in this lifetime and embracing my fashion aesthetics and choices is one outlet that helps me express who I am to this world.

My collection represents freedom and unconventionality like a moth. Moths have diverse wing patterns like butterflies but are never seen as beautiful as them at first glance, they’re treated like pests even. But when you take the time to look at a moth you find they have the same patterns as butterflies and realise they are equally as beautiful. I wanted my collection to reflect this because the designs of garments deviate from the norm but if you look closely, the wear feels strong and emulates beauty, confidence, and power.
